to Hotel & Boarding House Friederike

Welcome

Centrally located, we have excellent transport connections to Düsseldorf Airport, the Düsseldorf trade fair as well as to the Essen trade fair/Grugahalle.

You will find a tastefully restored house from the late Wilhelminian time around 1895. Classically furnished, the interior is dominated by warm wood tones and discreet colours. Original artworks of various artists underline the timelessly calm character of our house. In the winter garden, you enjoy your breakfast in a small green paradise or end a long day on a relaxed note at the cosy house bar.

Location

Due to the hotel’s central location in the green lung of the Ruhr Area, everything can be reached on foot: Town centre, cinema, museum, theatre and old town are only a ten minute walk away. For jogging, hiking, skating, etc., we recommend the nearby Ruhr promenade. The Wasserbahnhof (water station) and the Weiße Flotte (river cruise) are located in the immediate vicinity of our house. A modern fitness and tennis centre on the other side of the Ruhr, in the district of Saarn, are connected by a bridge and bicycle paths through a remarkable protected landscape right in the middle of the city.

Business

Take advantage of the excellent infrastructure of the western Ruhr Area and use Hotel Friederike as a starting point for your business! Breitscheider Kreuz and Kreuz Kaiserberg – two of the major motorway junctions in the region – as well as Düsseldorf Airport, the Düsseldorf trade fair, Esprit Arena, the Essen trade fair/Grugahalle are less than a twenty minute drive away; the cologne trade fair can be reached within 50 minutes. Everything is prepared  to make our rooms your office – including a free Wi-Fi connection and, of course, the necessary quietness. If you are planning on a longer business stay, choose one of the inexpensive apartments with kitchenette in our boarding house.

Tourism

Ideally situated for hiking or cycling in the Rhine and Ruhr area. On well-developed cycling paths, explore the historical village of Saarn with its monastery or the idyllic Ruhr valley leading to Essen-Kettwig, Essen-Werden, the Baldeneysee, Hattingen and beyond. Experience the rich and unique cultural heritage of the Ruhr Area: The inland port of Duisburg, the lock of the Rhine-Herne canal, the Gasometer, the Bottrop Tetraeder, and much more. One of Germany’s most beautiful cycling paths, the RuhrtalRadweg, runs along our hotel: It spans 230 kilometres from the source of the Ruhr in Winterberg to its mouth into the Rhine in Duisburg, at the „Rheinorange“.

Kultur

The Theater an der Ruhr („Theatre on the Ruhr“) has an outstanding reputation around the world. The „Weißen Nächte“ („White Nights“) at Raffelberg Park are an attraction even outside of Germany. But the cultural variety of the area extends from Moers (jazz festival) to Hamm („Klassiksommer“ – „Summer of Classical Music“), from Hagen (mussel salad) and Wesel to Xanten with its archealogical park. Right in its heart: Zeche Zollverein, our world heritage site. The mentioned events are examples of the creative diversity of the Ruhr Area. Learn more about it here: Metropole Ruhr
